Recycling Recovery Rate Nearly 66%

The performance of the Blue Box system continues to improve. In its sixth year of operation with industry support under the Blue Box Program Plan, the system has achieved a 65.9% recycling rate. Waste Diversion Ontario’s (WDO) 2009 Datacall recorded a total of 929,529 tonnes of Blue Box material diverted in 2008. This marks an increase of more than 3% from the previous year and is up significantly from the 779,844 tonnes reported in the program’s first year, 2003.
