CIF Grants Top $13 Million: Nets
Potential Increase in Processing Capacity of 130,000
Tonnes & $4M in Cost Savings
Additional Funding still Available
Since the Continuous Improvement Fund (CIF) began in
2008, it has approved funding for 66 projects that is
likely to increase processing capacity in Ontario by
130,000 tonnes per year and reduce municipal Blue Box
costs by over $4.1 million per year.
Approved projects cover a diverse field
of topics and geographic locations from urban to rural
but share a common goal to reduce system costs and/or
increase effectiveness. Several focus on “best
practices” ranging from developing transfer stations
to establishing recycling benchmarks for multi-residential
units or waste planning.
The fund is projected to invest over
$40 million in new projects through 2008 and 2010.
The CIF has initiated a series of monthly
conference calls for municipal representatives to support
the plastics re-processing development. The conference
calls are open to anyone interested in finding out about
the various plastics projects CIF has underway and to
solicit feedback on plastics and other critical issues.
To view find out how to participate or view the presentation
from the first plastics conference call, click on www.wdo.ca/cif.
The CIF also plans to release a new
operations plan later this fall, with key information
about how municipalities can best take part in projects
and gain financial support to improve their programs.
CIF welcomes enquiries from municipalities, vendors
and service providers to determine if or how their projects
might be eligible for grants. Details on all approved
CIF projects are available at www.wdo.ca/cif/projects.html
and additional information will be available at the
next Ontario Recycler Workshop (scheduled for December
4).

initiatives, go to: www.wdo.ca/cif
