Important Information for Phase 1 Stewards
File Q4, 2009 Report by January 31 & Simplify March
Reporting for the Consolidated MHSW Plan!
Stewardship Ontario is pleased to advise MHSM Phase 1 stewards that we will be simplifying the process of filing your consolidated MHSM sales data due in March, if you have successfully submitted all four 2009 quarterly reports by January 31.
By completing all 2009 quarterly reports, your sales data for Phase 1 materials will not have to be re-entered in March, minimizing your reporting effort.
Unfortunately, those who have not completed 2009 quarterly reports will be required to re-enter all 2009 sales data into the new system between March 1 and 31, 2010.
We encourage MHSM stewards who have outstanding 2009 quarterly reports to complete them before the end of this month in order to take advantage of this time-saving opportunity.
What will Phase 1 Stewards Still Need to Do to Comply with March Filing Requirements?
Phase 1 stewards will still need to provide information to Stewardship Ontario between March 1
and 31 if:
- you supply Phase 1 materials for sale or use into Ontario for which definitions have changed, e.g., antifreeze, batteries, paints, solvents, fertilizers and pesticides, and/or
- you supply any of the additional materials designated under the consolidated MHSW program
If you fall into either or both of these categories, you will need to enter the online system in March to provide the information that Stewardship Ontario requires to re-set the consolidated MHSW fees.
Stewardship Ontario will be in touch with stewards in the coming few weeks to explain the process in detail.
Payment not Required with March Consolidated MHSW Report
A fee payment is not needed with the March consolidated MHSW Report (called the Annual 2009 MHSM Steward’s Report). The fee rates that were included in the consolidated MHSW Program Plan were preliminary based on the information that was available to Stewardship Ontario at the time. The data stewards will provide as part of the Annual 2009 MHSW Steward’s Report will be used to recalculate fees that will come into effect on July 1, 2010. We expect to be able to reduce many of the fees included in the plan as a result of this process.
Final fees will be distributed to stewards before the July 1 launch of the consolidated program.
Tools to Help Prepare Data for Filing Reports
Tools are available on the Stewardship Ontario website to help companies obligated under the consolidated MHSW Program prepare data to file reports, beginning with the March report.
They include:
Stewards who have Voluntary Remitter Agreements
Stewards with voluntary remitter agreements may be required to re-enter 2009 data that was previously submitted by their remitter(s). Stewardship Ontario recognizes this will create difficulty for these stewards and we are actively pursuing ways to avoid or minimize the inconvenience for stewards. We will be in touch directly with those who find themselves in this category to help you streamline this process as much as possible.
Stay Tuned
Stewardship Ontario will send information to stewards on a regular basis. Our next Need-to-Know will include more information on how to report.
