Municipalities across Ontario formed the backbone of the MHSW Program collection services under Phase 1 of the program. Stewardship Ontario looks forward to continuing business partnerships with municipalities under the new consolidated program.
Under Phase 1 which continues through to June 30, 2010, Stewardship Ontario covers municipal post collection costs through shared responsibility agreements. These agreements will continue until a revised contract is established or until the current agreement terminates in 2011.
What are the key changes under the consolidated program that which will affect municipalities?
- The number of designated material categories grows from nine to 22.
- The current “shared responsibility agreements” will be replaced by service agreements or contracts between Stewardship Ontario and participating municipalities.
- These contracts will define the services Stewardship Ontario will purchase from a participating municipality and the price to be paid by Stewardship Ontario for the services to be provided.
- Collection sites will also be required to meet Stewardship Ontario’s Collection Vendor Standards.
How will the new agreements be established?
MHSW collection sites will be established through direct discussions and/or a request for quotation (RFQ) process.
Stewardship Ontario will contact each municipality that currently provides MHSW services and any other municipalities that express an interest in providing services early in 2010.
