Transportation and processing service providers are integral to the operation of a successful MHSW Program. Stewardship Ontario is interested in continuing successful business partnerships with registered and approved transporter and processor service providers and in developing new relationships.
Under Phase 1 of the MHSW Program, Stewardship Ontario manages collected wastes by providing:
- Incentive-based payments: used for automotive MHSW based on geographic zone for transportation of all wastes with an additional incentive for processing antifreeze and oil containers.
- Service contract payments: used for all non-automotive MHSW based on an established contract to service approved collection sites.
What's new under the program?
- The number of materials has grown from nine to 22
- Collection site operators, transporters and processors will be required to meet Stewardship Ontario’s new Vendor Standards
How can my company get involved?
If you are a company that can transport or process MHSW, you may register with Stewardship Ontario and seek approval status. An approved company is eligible to operate within the incentive based and service contract based systems.
Registering with Stewardship Ontario is the first step toward approval to be an MHSW transporter and/or processor.
In order to complete the registration process you will need to provide:
- Documentation of government approvals where applicable.
- Compliance statement based on the results of an environmental audit
- Operational description and activities.
The final requirement in this process is to read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
For companies that will operate under a service contract, a contract agreement will be established in addition to the registration process.
