John Coyne elected Chairman of Stewardship Ontario's Board of Directors
Stewardship Ontario is pleased to announce that John Coyne has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Jim Quick, SO’s Chairman since April 2009 recently resigned from the board. He has accepted an exciting new role in the aerospace industry. “We want to acknowledge and thank Jim for his leadership and the passion and energy that he brought to building Stewardship Ontario, “said in-coming Chair John Coyne. “It was under his careful direction that Stewardship Ontario recently transformed from a financing organization wholly dependent on outside service providers to an operating company that has taken direct control and oversight of our business responsibilities.”
John has been a Stewardship Ontario board member since 2006 and the Chair of the Governance Committee for the past two years. He is currently the VP of Legal & External Affairs at Unilever Canada, one of the world’s largest CPG companies. He has been with Unilever since 1992 providing leadership across a range of areas working with professionals and multi-disciplinary teams in corporate and government relations, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, safety and law. He is a member of Unilever Canada’s board of directors, the Canadian Leadership Team and chair of the company’s Pension Benefits Administration committee.
John is active on several boards. In addition to serving as SO’s Chair of Governance and Vice-Chair he also serves on several other boards including Advertising Standards Canada and the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. He is also co-chair of the steering committee for Partners in Project Green, a major environmental initiative of the Toronto Region Conservation Authority.
The board and management are looking forward to John’s leadership and vision as Stewardship Ontario focuses on the future and the strategic priorities that will guide the organization.
