Request for Expressions of Interest

 

Stewardship Ontario (SO) was established in 2002 under the Waste Diversion Act to develop, implement and operate a waste diversion program for paper materials and packaging wastes (Blue Box) and, more recently, municipal hazardous and special wastes (Orange Drop).

 

Stewardship Ontario’s key goals:

  • develop local markets for recyclable material to increase recycling and diversion from landfill
  • extract the value of those materials here at home, foster the development of Ontario’s green economy, and reduce the net cost of its recycling programs.

SO has traditionally provided loans and grants to companies making investments in new technologies and processes that ultimately improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Blue Box Program and reduce costs. SO is currently redefining its market development strategy and is interested in forming relationships with companies that have expertise, technology, or other value to offer that will help bring the Blue Box Program to a new level of recycling and financial performance.

SO is seeking expressions of interest from any of the following parties:
• Processors of recyclable materials
• Manufacturers that currently use or could use post-consumer recycled material
• Technology developers and/or commercialization facilitators
• Industry associations
• Regional Innovation Centres that have relevant technologies
• Strategic Institutional Investors that specialize in this area
• Environmental consultants/engineering firms with relevant expertise
• Other Industry Funding Organizations (IFOs) and other not-for-profit industry stakeholders

Your submissions should include a brief explanation (max. 500 words) of your interest in working with SO and the value-add that you can provide. Please include general information on your company/organization or weblinks to this information.
