Rules

Much of the information published elsewhere on the site can be found in the Rules, which are released annually in advance of the new program year. As your primary resource and an indispensable reference tool, the Rules for stewards provide:

  • A detailed definitions of Blue Box terms
  • Provisions for determining who is designated as a steward
  • Requirements for filing, and in some cases re-filing, steward reports
  • Potential penalties, interests and fees in the event of non-compliance
  • Expectations with respect to providing and retaining data, including calculation methodology, packaging data and  audit reports
  • Procedures for dispute resolution
  • An explanation of what constitutes “resident in Ontario” for the purposes of the program
  • The information to be included in the steward’s report
  • The payment and reporting schedule for the given program year
  • The table of fees for all material designated as blue box waste.
